Butter Up!
Warm, wearable, and everywhere, butter yellow reigns supreme this season.
If dopamine dressing defined the past few seasons with its loud neons and saturated brights, Spring/Summer 2025 is making a quieter statement. Enter: butter yellow. Not quite pastel, not quite primary, this mellow, creamy hue is the fashion world’s latest obsession. According to recent trend forecasting reports on Future Snoops and Coloro, butter yellow is poised to dominate wardrobes and storefronts alike, emerging as the season’s most wearable It-color.
Why the sudden shift? Experts say consumers are craving softness. After seasons of overstimulation, both in color and culture, there’s a renewed interest in tones that soothe rather than shout. Butter yellow delivers just that: it’s optimistic without being overwhelming, nostalgic without being retro, and light enough to feel fresh in the heat.
Designers are already leaning in. Jacquemus sent flowy butter-toned garments down the Spring/Summer 2025 runway, while Bottega Veneta incorporated the hue into both frilly and structured designs alike way back in Spring/Summer 2024. Even accessories are taking the buttery plunge: Bottega Veneta and Loewe have teased handbags in creamy yellow leather, making it clear this shade works well beyond the realm of sundresses. Even celebrities have long been making the butter yellow rounds, such as Timothée Chalamet and Sabrina Carpenter.

For those of us who tend to be more color-shy, butter yellow is a perfect gateway into brighter dressing. It’s gentle, romantic, and surprisingly flattering on a wide range of skin tones. Forecasting agencies like WGSN have pegged it as a key tone in their Spring/Summer 2025 palettes, citing its calming psychological effect and association with warmth, simplicity, and joy.
So yes, this season, we’re softening the palette. Consider it your new neutral, with a little sunshine baked in! Cheers!
