Clothing to live in: Zegna Mens
Nonchalant. Ambivalent. Unconcerned. Careless. Precise. Articulately executed. It hurts. It's so fucking good that it hurts.
There's a reason Zegna is as legendary as it is.
For those unaware, Zegna just showed its Summer 2027 collection in Malibu on the Malibu Pier. The ethos of the presentation was rooted in the Italian concept of villeggiatura. In Zegna's words, it is about "seasonal living, cultivated leisure, and the pleasure of temporarily bringing one's world elsewhere."
I can confidently say this collection brought me somewhere else.
It's sophisticated yet wholly unpretentious at the same time. Every look is deeply wearable. Nothing that came down the runway carried even a hint of pretension. Use them, abuse them, they're just clothes. Season after season, Zegna has managed to never forget that. They make clothing. Wearable, practical, considered, and gorgeous clothing. Clothing nonetheless.
They offer an approachable product. It isn't so heady or cerebral that it's intimidating to wear. The price, of course, is less approachable, but you're paying for the best of the best.
Everything feels so sure of itself. Certain, like the weather or an older relative. The brand, the clothing, and the customer all know who they are, what they like, and what they want. These are tastes and sensibilities cultivated over a lifetime, passed down, observed, and refined across generations. It is the physical manifestation of fashion's collective memory.
Heady? Sure. Correct? Absolutely.
Without context, the runway images could easily be mistaken for street photography. The collection carried the feeling that it had already existed. The clothes looked lived in, worn, and loved. It felt less like a presentation of new ideas and more like a glimpse inside the wardrobe of an eccentric, bohemian Italian. I mean that as the highest compliment.
Ralph Lauren captures a similar sense of sartorial timelessness.
In a fashion landscape obsessed with singularity, Zegna doesn't try to become something. It simply is.
