A Style How-To on: Cute Winter Fits

2026 introduced herself with below freezing temperatures and brought a challenge to all fashionistas out there: how do I look cute while staying warm? I know it might seem impossible when throwing on dull layer after layer, but if there’s a will there’s a way. I’m here to tell you how with this month’s styling trick. I’m talking patterns, textures, and colors combining and clashing together in an effortlessly chic way.

Patterns

Neutrals are taking a backseat and patterns are officially in the spotlight. Stripes, polka dots, plaid, tartan, animal print – they’re all having their moment right now and I’m more than here for it. Buy a fun stripe pant. Grab a polka-dot puffer. Throw on that plaid trench. People can’t see what you’re wearing bundled up under your big coat, so make your coat the moment! If you still don’t feel convinced and patterns scare you, here’s the secret: when your coat does the talking, everything else can stay simple. It’s the easiest way to strike the perfect balance between bold and basic.

Textures

Adding texture to an outfit elevates it from a 9 to a 10. Everyone loves a leather jacket, but fur-trimmed cuffs and a collar will have people turning heads. Mohair scarfs look and feel luxe. Wrap one around your head while tucking it into your trench for a chic, cozy moment. It’s the winter equivalent of a silk headscarf during hot summer days. And let’s not forget suede, lace, and the resurgence of crushed velvet. But texture isn’t only about what something is made of; it’s also about how pieces are layered. Like a pleated midi asymmetrical skirt over some denim jeans. This not only adds more dimension to a fit, but breaks it up visually as well. Also, skirts over pants? Complete it-girl energy. If this feels daunting, start small with accessories: chic leather gloves, a thick fluffy scarf, or a fuzzy hat and see how you can pair it with different items you already own.

Colors

This year, we are not backing away from color; we're embracing it. Some unexpected color pairings that I’ve been seeing and loving lately are burgundy with olive, apple green with brown, pale pink with grey, and azure blue with chocolate brown. Another underrated standout this season? Metallics. From accessories like a silver slouch bag to clothes like metallic pants, it’s a fun “color” to play with and way simpler than you think. The key is keeping the tones aligned. A cool-toned silver will look great with that azure blue I mentioned before, while a warm gold will look amazing with burgundy. Dare I say metallic shoes as well?

Mix and match your color combos with your patterns and textures, and voila — you’ve crafted the perfect winter fit recipe. See, that wasn’t so hard, was it? The trick is to commit to whatever you throw on and own it. Cool girls aren’t scared of making a bold statement, so you shouldn’t either!
